So your friend has just asked you to be a bridesmaid. How exciting. But what do you have to do now? There is a lot more to being a bridesmaid than wearing a posh frock and heels. It’s actually a role that holds a lot of responsibility and you need to be up for the task. Your friend is planning the biggest day of her life and has asked you to help and support her throughout. So you need to be prepared for everything that comes your way. Use this guide to assist you in becoming an attentive, caring and excellent bridesmaid throughout the wedding process. I’m super excited to be Emma’s Bridesmaid next year so I thought you guys could use some tips…
Help the bride as much as you can
Your soon to be married friend will undoubtedly ask you for help at some point in the wedding process. It could be anything from helping her create her Pure Invitation wedding invites to assisting her in trying on wedding dresses. The key to being a fantastic bridesmaid is enthusiasm and willingness to help. So let her know the evenings and weekends you have free and offer to do small tasks for her. This will reduce her workload and get you more involved in the process. For instance, if she doesn’t drive you could take her to a wedding show or to potential wedding venues. Or if she wants a DIY style wedding you could offer to make table decorations and favours. These small acts may seem minor but they will make a huge difference.
Get to know the other bridesmaids
If your friend has asked some other people to be her bridesmaids too, you need to make an effort to meet and get to know them. You could organise a girl’s night in where you and the other members of the bridal party can discuss the wedding and have fun together. You could watch movies, use wedding blogs and flick through magazines for inspiration and ideas for the big day. Remember to swap contact information so you can all meet in secret later on and start planning the bachelorette party. This event will show your friend just how seriously you are taking your bridesmaid role and how eager you are for everyone to get involved.
Create a bridal emergency kit
Be fully prepared for the big day by creating a wedding emergency kit for any potential things that could go wrong. Think of the items your friend might need on her wedding day such as sewing sets, deodorant, mints, slippers and fashion tape. These are items that can easily be forgotten by the bride and without them, her wedding day might be ruined. Also, consider packing things such as an umbrella and a coat should the weather take a turn for the worst. Your friend will be so pleased that you’ve thought of these little extras ahead of time and it will make her a much happier bride as a result.
Being a bridesmaid may sound like hard work, but your friend would not have given you the challenge if she didn’t think you were up for it. So feel honoured and privileged to be so involved in such a special occasion.
