If you don’t start taking care of your teeth now, you’ll regret it later on down the line. You only get one set of teeth. Although veneers and caps are an option, you really don’t want to have to go down that route if you can help it. It’s expensive and can damage your natural teeth. Let’s take a look at how you can take care of your teeth properly to keep them looking amazing:
Never Use Your Teeth as Tools
I know so many people who have used their teeth as tools in the past and really regret it now. Things like opening bottles with your teeth are really risky. You might not damage your teeth, but you also might crack them and lose one! Even things like biting your nails and pulling tags of clothing should be avoided. Your teeth are fragile, so treat them that way.
Watch What You Eat and Drink
The things we eat and drink can impact our teeth in a big way. Drinks like tea, coffee, and red wine can stain teeth if consumed too much. Sometimes, I like to drink mine with a straw just to be safe! Foods that would stain your top will usually stain your teeth, so be careful when deciding what to eat. Also bear in mind that you haven’t just got foods that stain your teeth to think about, but sugary food and drink too. Food and drink that contain a lot of sugar can rot the teeth and discolour them, making them less than perfect.
See a Dentist Regularly
You should see your dentist at least once every 12 months, although they usually recommend once every 6 months. Make sure you find a reliable dental centre in your area so you feel comfortable every time you make a dentist’s appointment. I know how nerve wracking going there can be!
Find a Great Way to Whiten Them
Whitening your teeth doesn’t have to cost you hundreds of pounds at the dentist anymore. There are lots of safe home solutions you can use to get your teeth looking their absolute best again. Some people like to use strips, and I’ve heard wonderful things about coconut oil. Oil pulling is supposed to be the new big trend in teeth whitening! Find something that works for you, but make sure the method you choose is safe.
Chew Gum After Eating
Chewing gum after eating helps to neutralise your plaque acids and ensures teeth stay healthier for longer.
Look Out for Problems
It isn’t just up to the dentist to look out for problems with your teeth. Make sure you’re keeping an eye on them too. If you catch fillings and things early, you can usually avoid expensive, painful treatment.
