With all the hustle and bustle of daily life sometimes we can forget to just stop, and have some ‘me time’. Some of us may try to set aside ‘me time’ and then find that we’re completely distracted by our phones, our families or even our own thoughts. So, how do you properly relax and unwind? Here are some useful tips to help you do just that.
Turn Everything Off
Phones, televisions, laptops, tablets. Turn it all off! If you want some real time to relax and unwind, then you don’t need any distractions. The only thing you may want to keep on is the radio. Just make sure that it’s turned down low, for background noise. If you try to take some time out for yourself then it’s going to be almost impossible with the distraction of your phone going off every 5 minutes. Just unplug for a short while and see what a difference it can make.
Get Some Fresh Air
This is one of the best ways to relax and unwind, especially if you’ve been cooped up in an office or at home all day. Just a quick walk around the block can make all the difference when it comes to your mood. If you don’t have time to go out for a walk then sit in the garden for a few minutes. Failing that, open as many windows and doors as you can. Let the fresh air circulate and you’ll notice a difference right away.
Heighten Your Senses
This is a great way to stop your mind from wandering and give you some ‘me time’. Try concentrating on each of your five senses one at a time. Start by looking around you, really looking. What do you see? Next, listen to the noises going on around you. Third up is touch. Feel the weight of your body on the chair or floor. Next you want to smell the air around you. Aromatherapy is good for this one! Finally, taste. Drink a cold glass of water and feel it travelling down your throat and into your stomach. By heightening your senses and taking a few minutes out to do this, you’ll instantly feel calmer.
Nothing quite beats a bubble bath if you just want to relax and unwind. Make sure you’ve sent the family away for an hour, and you have the whole house to yourself. Put the radio on in another room, down low. Fill the bath with your favourite bubbly products (I’d recommend LUSH Products). Light some candles and place them around the bathroom. Now get in and relax. Pop on a face mask and lay back. You can even take a book if you want something to do. Just no phones, you’re unplugged remember!
Sometimes, the reason we need to relax and unwind is simply because we’re tired. A power nap is a surefire way to solve this problem! Turn everything off, close the curtains and set your alarm for no longer than 20 minutes. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to take on the rest of the day.
How do you like to relax and unwind? If you’re finding it difficult to get some ‘me time’ then try one of these options and see how you get on.
